“HALL ART”

20”X24”

$375 matted - $500 framed

HALL ART  was taken in Fort Christian which is the oldest standing structure on St. Thomas.  The Fort was built in 1666-1680 with additions added in 1874. During the early Colonization of the Caribbean, St. Thomas was a busy trading center and base for many “Privateers” more commonly know as Pirates.  The Danish government, as did most of the Mother Countries, quietly condoned the raiding of rival countries vessels.   The Fort as the Center of the first Danish settlement as survived several fires and hurricanes which devastated much of the town in the 18th and 19th centuries.  The Fort has been used as a military barracks, jail and now is a Museum.   The pictures seen in the hall of the “Cell” are late 1800’s and early 1900’s photographs of life in St. Thomas.
